Wot I Did in London Last Week I could wax lyrical all day long about how much I love Twitter and why. The "why" is people. I can't begin to express how many wonderful people, some of which are now genuine, bona fide, real-life friends, I've met since joining twitter a couple of years ago. I'm dead lucky. I met @chocosquirrel last January at one of these events http://www.truestoriestoldlive.com/ There were a few other tweeters there too, which was great/exciting/curious. Since then, me and Choco have become bona fide, real-life friends - which is ace, as it means I have somewhere to stay in London now ;-) Friday - I arrived in London about midday, me and @TeenyBella finally found each other at King's Cross; bit of confusion over meeting point (all you need to know is that I was right). We got the tube to Barbican and went to the The Shakespeare pub, where we met up with @hyperbolicgoat, @sharongooner and @comedyfish. SG was just on her lunchbreak so had to depart (sadly). We were shortly joined by @artworkerben and @lucyinglis and Simon (not sure if he's on twitter, that doesn't sound like a codename to me). Numerous pints of booze were sunk, we gossiped, we laughed. Just like twitter really, but without the typing. Lucy and Simon departed, leaving 5 of us to make our way to Moorgate, for the next stage of our marathon tweetup. @TeenyBella wouldn't shut up about a rickshaw, so we got a taxi ;-) We descended on The Globe pub on Moorgate, I gave my companions instructions to find "plenty of seats and a power socket". Bloody iPhone batteries!! They didn't fail me. They found a great spot upstairs. Now, things start to get rapidly fuzzier and fuzzier, rest assured, I was ACE at all times. But this is who then turned up: @chocosquirrel (drinks whatever she's given), @ElectriCouch (drinks Crabbies), @ICUChris (drinks Pepsi), @YA_RLY, @janapleyto (I think she's shrunk since I last saw her), @tortytweets, @airab .... Have I forgotten anyone? Still in attendance were @TeenyBella, @artworkerben, @comedyfish, @hyperbolicgoat so that made 12 of us. A nice and neat, dirty dozen. Two things contributed to it all going a bit Pete Tong: Firstly, @janapleyto getting me and @chocosquirrel on the tequila slammers. We slammed about half a dozen. I gagged on the 6th; I know my limit. And secondly, this gem from the wonderful @DavieLegend (sadly he wasn't there in person) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifVETy-Y2qI Anyway, I was outside the pub with Choco, and a random chap came up to me and said "Are you Debsa?" I think I squealed, because I am Debsa! He bought me drinks, which I'm forever in his debt for. He wasn't entirely random I guess - we don't follow each other but he recognised me from my avatar, he is @bridietheborder and the husband of @lucyinglis, who I met earlier in the day for the first time. Funny old Twitter eh? Anyway, cut a long old day short ... me, Choco and Goat departed, scoffed Macdonalds, then staggered off home. I think everyone else must've left at some point too. Yes, that was Friday, Friday ... we so got down on Friday. Saturday - woke up on a semi-deflated airbed in @chocosquirrel's lounge, compared post-tequila thoughts, went to Olive (the official Twitter cafe) for some breakfast. We then headed to South Kensington to the Victoria and Albert Museum. My first visit. It blew me away, especially the Cast Courts and the sculptures - Rodin's in particular. You must visit if you've never been, go again if you have. A hectic and annoying bus journey then followed. Annoying due to the fact there was a woman on her mobile who needed to "touch base" with a lot of people! We alighted at Queensway; what a relief. Quick refuel of Pepsi and salt n vinegar crisps while planning our adventure to Hyde Park Corner tube station. The chosen mode of transport was: Boris Bikes! There was some "hilarity" over the codes not working and paying for some bikes for a Spanish family and then only ending up with one bike blah blah. Finally, Choco and I secured our steeds! Lumbering, Shire horse like steeds. These bikes weigh a ton (not exagerrating). We cycled across Hyde Park, hands freezing, thighs burning. I haven't had such pleasure in months. We were 'greeted' at Hyde Park Corner by quite a crowd. Word had clearly travelled fast that Debsa was in town. Turned out the crowd wasn't for me. Hey ho. We dumped the bikes, hopped on the tube to north London, bought food, watched Quantum of Solace, slept. Sunday - are you still with me? Quite frankly I'm surprised, but I admire your stamina. The clocks went forward, did you know that? If you didn't, this past week must've been FUN! Woke in a mild panic at midday; lunch booked for 1.30pm at 2sixteen. Joining us for lunch was @carrozo, @NoxeemaJackson, @girlimperfectly, Patrick, Noni and Andy. What a ruddy lovely bunch and what fabulous food. Visit immediately!! Yvette is a wonderful cook and host. Sunday evening was spent doing stencil art and word puzzles with Choco. Ace! Monday (the last day in London) - got the tube to Moorgate with Choco (who had to go to work), I then made my way to Earlsfield (via Waterloo) to meet up with @wo0, who has a photography studio nearby. We did the usual, "oh my god, you're taller than I thought you would be", "who's the fittest on Twitter" etc etc Then we discussed a couple of ideas for a photo and this was the final result - I think you'll agree pretty standard stuff for someone you've only just met. We then had a drink in a local pub and headed our separate ways; wo0 back to BlazingStoke and me to another tube station (which one Greg?) to meet @themanwhofell for a drink or two in The Jolly Gardner on Tottenham Court Road. We chatted about poker, Argentina, electricity etc. We then had a 'date' with some more bloody tweeters in another pub, so off we skipped to The Castle nr Chancery Lane tube where we met up with @moanup (balls safely ensconced in trousers), @LordOtter (bedecked in tweed and cordouroy), @comedyfish (again!!) and @Biltawulf (sporting his new grrrrr manly look). @themanwhofell beat @Biltawulf at an arm wrestle and other things happened, probably. Finally it was time to bugger off back to sunny Chichester. Phew! So, that's what I did in London. Any questions?
